We are finally getting cold weather–a bit like winter, but no real covering of snow yet. Still, it’s cozy sitting indoors with the bright shining tree.
It’s Christmas card time–writing notes on them and also opening the mail.

Early blessings. Two of my grandchildren, twins Tegan and Ronan, are staying with me this week, while their Mom and Dad and older brother, Julian, are hunting elk in our mountains.
Under a brilliant blue sky we wandered over to our neighborhood ice cream shop and sampled some new flavours. Salted butterscotch and chocolate sorbet were new to them. A sweet treat all around!

Finally, we seem to be cooling off–just a bit. The past week was in the 80’s instead of the record-breaking 90’s!
Even better, I see that the 70’s and 60’s are in the forecast by the end of this week. Maybe Fall is creeping in. Fall reminds me of our adventures in the Rockies when our family was young.

In honor of my Aunt Bunny who just passed, most of my local family and some who flew in from other states met with 75 friends of hers. Most of those, like my aunt, were residents of St. Andrews Village, a lovely retirement apartment complex.

Since you were first left alone by loss, you almost certainly have had feelings of depression, confusion and worthlessness. The old ‘music’ in your life was gone. You would spend time with friends from time to time. And that did help a bit, but not for long.
I am sure you have taken some positive steps to fill your time; maybe you heard a lecture or sermon, saw a movie, or maybe you actually enjoyed a wonderful concert. All of this helps, but in the long run it’s just the first of many steps forward. The gloom will be descending on you again for some time.

Inspiration can come from people who have endured catastrophic life experiences and emerged the victor or the wiser victim. Helen Keller, Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, and Elie Weisel are some of the more familiar names, but many of us have personally known individuals who have come through the other side of a wrenching experience with love, grace and humility.
